Impressive Results for PCGS-Certified Coins in Hong Kong Auctions

CHINA. Reversed Dragon Pattern Dollar (Type II), Year 3 (1911). PCGS SP-63+2016 Summer Auction in Hong Kong has successfully come to the end. Many coins,  certified by Professional Coin Grading Service (www.PCGSAsia.com) for authenticity and grade, were the highlights of five auctions that were conducted in conjunction with the 2016 Hong Kong Coin Show(HKCS) and Hong Kong International Coin Convention and Antique Watch Fair (HICC).

Auctions were conducted by Stack's Bowers and Ponterio; A.H. Baldwin & Sons, Ltd., Rarehouse, Champion and by Spink & Son. Highlights of the auctions include these PCGS-certified coins.

CHINA. Chihli (Pei Yang Arsenal). 7 Mace 2 Candareens (Dollar), Year 26 (1900). PCGS MS-64

Highlights of the SBP auction included:

  • CHINA. Reversed Dragon Pattern Dollar (Type II), Year 3 (1911). PCGS SP-63+ Secure Holder. Beautifully struck on a highly lustrous planchet. Sold at $113,525.
  • HINA. Chihli (Pei Yang Arsenal). 7 Mace 2 Candareens (Dollar), Year 26 (1900). PCGS MS-64 Secure Holder. Blazing luster with light golden toning, absolutely gorgeous in hand. Crisp strike with excellent details. Sold at $95,600.
  • HINA. 1500 Yuan, 1989. PCGS PROOF-68 DEEP CAMEO secure holder. Mao Zedong and all of the figures present are well rendered and detailed with all of the frosted devices having no breaks or flecks. The deep pool mirrored fields are undisturbed and free of any signs of contact. Sold at $131,450.
  • VIET NAM, SOUTH. National Bank of Viet Nam. 1000 Dong, ND. P-4Ap. Proof. PCGSBG Gem Uncirculated 66 OPQ, first Proof example ever sold in Public Auction. Sold at $38,240.
  • CHINA--PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC. Peoples Bank of China. 50,000 Yuan, 1950. P-855. PCGSBG Gem Uncirculated 65. Sold at $26,290.

VIET NAM, SOUTH. National Bank of Viet Nam. 1000 Dong, ND. P-4Ap. Proof. PCGSBG Gem Uncirculated 66 OPQHighlights of the Spink auction included:

  • China, silver Memento dollar, 1927, Sun Yat Sen on obverse, PCGS MS65. , sold at HKD 13200.

Highlights of the Rarehouse auction included:

  • Yuan Shih Kai Hung Hsien Commemorative Medal, ND (1916) (L&M-942). Brilliant condition. PCGS MS64, sold at $20,060.
  • Kweichow Province, Auto Silver One Dollar, 1928 (L&M-609). PCGS AU50, sold at $22,420.
