Lot Description

This delightful specimen is ringed in halos of orange-russet peripheral patina with lighter blue-gray iridescence toward the centers. The technical quality is no less impressive, both sides fully struck and smooth enough to approach perfection. Given that the 1885 is the rarest circulation strike in the Liberty Head nickel series, this condition rarity from the year's Proof issue offers an exciting alternative for the high quality date collector. Beautiful!
