Lot Description
1854-D Liberty Head Half Eagle. Winter 36-AA. Large D. AU-53 (PCGS). CAC. Vivid orange-apricot color blends with deeper honey-gold on both sides of this handsome and fully original example. The strike is superior for a mid-1850s Dahlonega Mint five, the central high points soft, but the borders generally bold and most other areas sharp. Softly frosted luster is very much in evidence on surfaces that are free of troublesome marks. The 1854-D is one of the more readily obtainable Dahlonega Mint half eagles, but all issues from this coinage facility are scarce in an absolute sense, and most are rare in grades above EF. Provenance: From the Fairmont Collection - Rhone Set. PCGS# 8258. NGC ID: 25UK. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
