Lot Description

A desirable offering for this classic, eagerly sought, yet challenging colonial era type. Dressed in richly original steel-olive patina, both sides also exhibit glints of lighter pewter gray in the protected areas around some of the design elements. Peripheral softness in some areas affects only the border beading, although some of it is present, and the major design elements remain universally bold in the presence of moderate, even wear. While no sizeable marks are present to distract during in-hand viewing, accuracy compels us to mention a microscopically rough texture with light pitting. This piece presents nicely enough for a Continental dollar in certified Choice VF, nonetheless, and with prices escalating quickly as one progresses up the numismatic grading scale, this piece has much to offer type collectors and others with an interest in early American and related types.
