Manley Die State 2.0. Lustrous and frosty surfaces retain plenty of rose-red mint color, although both sides have mellowed to iridescent lilac-brown in areas, most notably the central reverse. The strike is razor sharp with crisp definition to all design elements. The 1835 represents the final date in the circulation strike half cent series. The mintage is either the 398,000 pieces that constituted the Mint's second delivery of December 31, 1835, or approximately 330,000 pieces if greater weight is given to the surviving population. The present example is likely from the Elmer Sears hoard discovered circa 1935, which included numerous Mint State 1835 half cents of both the C-1 and C-2 varieties, many with considerable mint red color remaining, as here.
