Boldly struck with bright, essentially brilliant surfaces. The 1851 is one of the more underrated Liberty Seated quarters, scarcer even than its lower mintage counterpart from the New Orleans Mint. Many of the 160,000 coins struck in the Philadelphia Mint that year were likely melted in the East due to rising silver prices. The 1851-O (just 88,000 pieces produced), on the other hand, seems to have suffered a lower rate of attrition through circulation. The present offering for a condition rarity near-Gem 1851 represents a significant find for the astute Liberty Seated quarter collector.
