Lot Description

Breen Die State VI. As a Sheldon-76b in a certified Choice AU holder, this is a particularly desirable type coin for the collector seeking an example of the Liberty Cap cent. Generally medium walnut brown surfaces show intermingled blushes of chestnut, olive and, here and there around the obverse periphery, swirls of charcoal associated with light carbon build up. Both sides reveal additional, albeit trivial roughness under magnification, but in the absence of significant marks, the in-hand appearance is pleasingly smooth. The strike is nicely centered and well executed overall, the only lack of detail confined to the border denticulation where affected by shallow curved planchet clips at 7:30 and, especially, 2:30 relative to the obverse. A nice-looking piece, and worthy of strong bids.
