1652 Massachusetts Bay Colony Pine Tree Shilling. Small Planchet. Noe-16, W-835. Rarity-2. Fine-12 (PCGS). 64.97 grains. Medium steel gray with lighter high points. Slightly off-center to the bottom but not affecting the legend, shallow dent at TH, no noticeable circulation marks, heavy cud at bottom of tree engages much of the beaded circle to the right and the device below, cud at I of IN to beaded circle, same late die state as seen at Hain:137, reverse nicely centered and essentially mark-free, die cud at D and period following and AN DO, again as at the Hain piece. Choice for the grade with solid overall eye appeal. PCGS# 24. Provenance: Purchased from Stack's, December 1997.
