Lot Description

If the NGC MS-62 coin in the preceding lot gets way, this present offering represents a second opportunity for the advanced Liberty Head or Southern gold collector to secure a conditionally rare example of the 1843-C half eagle. This frosty BU example is richly toned with rose and powder blue overtones to a base of orange-gold color. The strike is typical of this uncommonly well produced Charlotte Mint issue, the centers with minor softness but the detail sharp to full elsewhere. Wispy handling marks and some muting to the finish account for the MS-61 assessment from PCGS, but no singularly distracting blemishes are seen, and the in-hand appearance is impressively smooth. A pleasing piece that will draw strong bids.
