Lot Description
1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 6.1-M, W-2820. Rarity-2. Mailed Bust Left, Laughing Head. EF-45 (PCGS). 106.8 grains. Dies about 30 degrees clockwise of coin turn. Nice glossy chocolate brown with some minor, shallow planchet striations at central reverse. One of the real engraving oddities of the series, considered a circulating counterfeit, with a low-relief and heavily outlined obverse portrait that can only be called goofy. Nicely centered and essentially problem free. Nice Laughing Heads seem to turn up less frequently than they once did. PCGS# 358. Provenance: From the John "Jack" Royse Collection. Purchased privately from Stack's.
