Lot Description

Pretty iridescent toning in golden-apricot is more extensive on the obverse, both sides also with delicate powder blue accents on the rims. From a mintage of 1,000 Proof quarters for the date, many of which were likely destroyed through melting or released into commerce in later years when they failed to sell to contemporary collectors. In fact, it is possible that no more than 500 examples were actually distributed to numismatists, with John W. Dannreuther (2025) accounting for only 300 to 400 survivors in all grades.
