- Die State 110.2. A delightful near-Gem example of both the type and Overton number. Both sides are vividly and attractively toned in blended antique gold, powder blue and sandy-apricot iridescence. Lustrous and frosty, the surfaces are impressively smooth overall with just a couple of trivial, easily overlooked handling marks precluding a full Gem Mint State grade. A sharply executed strike rounds out a truly impressive list of physical attributes for this captivating piece. Stephen J. Herrman in the Autumn 2025 revision to his Auction & Mail Bid Prices Realized for Bust Half Dollars: 1794-1839 enumerates one example each in MS-65 and MS-64+ as CC#1 and #2 for the 1823 O-110 attribution. A number of MS-64s follow as tied for CC#3, which includes the present example in an earlier certification; its current grade of PCGS/CAC MS-64+ confirms it as tied for CC#2 for these dies.
