A totally pleasing and original example of this important rarity. Nicely defined details show light wear, evident that it was discovered before it was able to get heavily worn and pulled from circulation. Unlike many that have been conserved in the past, this piece has bold tan-russet, and dove toning. A few insignificant marks are noted for accuracy, but none are serious enough to negatively affect the eye appeal. A very rare date in a highly collectible grade. PCGS 12, NGC 6. It has been over five years since the last PCGS AU50 sold in auction, realizing $25,850 in January 2013. The most recent example was an NGC coin that sold for $23,500 in April 2013.
