1840-C Liberty Half Eagle. AU-50 (NGC). Olive-gold with traces of copper intermixed as well on the planchet. Reasonably sharp for this early Charlotte issue, with minor localized softness on Liberty's curls and a few stars, as well as the eagle. Evidence of die rust at the rims as well. Early die state and struck before the crack forms through I(CA) to the arrows. Pleasing surface quality and scarce this nice.
