ロット詳細: Breen Die State III. Visually appealing and conditionally rare for both the type and die pairing. Both sides are smooth for the assigned grade; even close inspection with a loupe reveals only trivial blemishes that are neither distracting nor seemingly extensive enough to preclude a higher Mint State designation. Even provenance markers are difficult to come by, and we had to search diligently to find a tiny spot on the reverse at the letter A in STATES that will be useful in this regard. Rich steely-copper patina dominates, but there are prominent swaths of golden-brown from faded mint color through the lower half of the obverse and along the upper left reverse border. Peripheral detail is somewhat soft, not unusually so for the type, and the focal features are suitably bold.<p>As the only overdate variety of its issue, Sheldon-281 enjoys strong demand among both Classic Head cent specialists and more general early copper collectors. Typical of the type, most survivors from thee dies are well worn, if not also impaired. Mint Sate offerings are few and far between, this being our first since the ESM specimen in PCGS/CAC MS-64 BN sold for $40,800 in our August 2020 sale of that collection. The Widmer Family is releasing one of the few other CAC-approved Mint State 1810/09 cents, a handsome coin and significant condition rarity that will see spirited bidding.
