1854 Octagonal 50 Cents. BG-306. Rarity-4. Liberty Head. MS-65 (PCGS). The deep olive-gold surfaces of this lustrous Period One California gold issue enjoy frosty and nicely struck devices set against reflective fields. This little golden Gem stands up well to magnified scrutiny. Die State II: "Obverse again repolished, three stars minute, date fragmented, 18 very weak." From the firm of Frontier, Deviercy & Co., active in the San Francisco area circa 1853 to 1864.
