Lot Description
1870-S Liberty Seated Dime. Fortin-101, the only known dies. MS-65 (PCGS). Bright silver and satiny on both sides, with no signs of toning. The strike is fairly sharp although there is a touch of softness on the upper left wreath and Liberty's head shows partial definition of her hair. Outstanding surface quality with precious few bagmarks seen even when studied with a strong loupe. One of the ten coins certified by PCGS of this tough date, and tied at that level with seven in all. Mintage of 50,000 pieces for the year and dismal survival rates ensued, finding more than a handful may require decades. Gems like this are caviar for the specialist. PCGS Population: 7; 3 finer (MS-66 finest). PCGS# 4652. PCGS Population: 7; 3 finer (MS-66 finest).
