Lot Description

Medallic alignment. A classic rarity in the Wood's series, an issue widely considered a pattern, with all known specimens the product of a single pair of dies. And this is a particularly desirable coin as a premium quality Gem certified by PCGS and verified by CAC. Warmly patinated olive-copper surfaces retain traces of original mint red in the protected areas. The texture is lustrous and glossy with no post-production blemishes apart from a few faint carbon flecks that are easily overlooked, and just as easily forgiven. A thin, shallow planchet fissure from the obverse at the letter O in GEORGIUS is as made and serves as a useful identifier to preserve the impressive numismatic provenance of this important coin. Sure to sell for a strong premium to an advanced numismatist.
