- A visually appealing piece, both sides exhibit only the lightest iridescent toning in silver and gold that yields to brilliance at most viewing angles. As such, a boldly cameoed finish that contrasts softly frosted motifs with reflective fields is readily appreciable as the coin rotates under lighting. Fully struck, commensurate with the issue, and uncommonly smooth and well composed overall.<p>Specialists Dick Osburn and Brian Cushing suggest that around 130 survivors remain of the 1863 OC-P1 die pair, offered here, and featuring a reverse die that would go on to strike Proof silver dollars again in 1864. Most of these estimated 130 pieces are found in grades of Proof-64 and lower, however, making the present Gem Cameo example a significant find for specialists.
