- 1787 Fugio Copper. Pointed Rays. Newman 8-B, W-6740. Rarity-3. UNITED STATES, 4 Cinquefoils. AU-58 (PCGS). 165.7 grains. Full frosty luster remains on beautiful medium chocolate brown surfaces. Some faded mint color remains, particularly rich around central reverse. A very light flaw is present near the rim above the date. This variety always seems to have a somewhat rounded rim, and that aspect is present here as well. We have difficulty seeing wear on this piece; it is certainly both nicer and more attractive than a healthy proportion of the certified Mint State examples of this Bank of New York hoard variety. Typical die state with significant clashing visible on the reverse. An absolutely gorgeous example of the variety or type. PCGS# 889. Provenance: From the Rob Retz Family Collection.
