Lot Description
Die State 119.1. This exquisite Gem exhibits bold iridescent cobalt blue and steel-rose patina on softly frosted surfaces. The strike is razor sharp over the central design elements, and both sides are well deserving of the MS-65 grade from PCGS. Included in the Autumn 2025 revision to Stephen J. Herrman's Auction & Mail Bid Prices Realized for Bust Half Dollars: 1794-1839 as NGC/CAC MS-65+, in which this coin is ranked CC#2 for the 1831 O-119 dies. While neither this date nor die marriage are rare in an absolute sense, examples that are as expertly preserved and visually appealing as the present coin are clearly rare. Given the popularity of the early half dollar series, such pieces are actually even rarer from a market availability standpoint. We expect this piece to secure a premium bid as it crosses the auction block.
