1880 Shield Nickel. AU-55 (PCGS). CAC. Golden gray surfaces with hints of pale blue. Frosty luster can be seen within the protected areas of the designs, especially between the stripes of the shield. Only 16,000 circulation strikes were minted during the year, and survivors are scarce in all grades. Probably no more than a few dozen examples exist above the AU-50 designation. PCGS# 3810.
