This is the third and final die pairing of the 1852 United States Assay Office $10 that utilizes the Augustus Humbert reverse, and it was retired upon adoption of the new reverse legend under Curtis, Perry & Ward in the spring of that year. The offered example represents the latest known state of this obverse die, attributed as K-10a, with extensive die breaks and rust among the design elements along the left border. Scarce both as a type and variety.
