Lot Description

1939-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar. MS-68 (NGC). The 1939-D is the most plentiful mintmarked Walker from the middle portion of this series (1934-1940), edging out the 1940-S in an absolute sense and the 1939-S in MS-65 and higher grades. Such a fact should not disparage the awesome condition rarity of the present Superb Gem. It is one of only three 1939-D half dollars graded as high as MS-68 by PCGS and NGC combined, and no examples are finer at either service. Virtually full in strike, with billowy mint frost and nearly pristine surfaces. Light pale-silver tinting to both sides, with a touch of sandy-gold iridescence hugging the left obverse border. Stunning!
