- Lot Description
- 1795 Liberty Cap Half Cent. C-6c, B-6a/6c. Rarity-2. Plain Edge, No Pole. Thin Planchet--Overstruck--Fine-15 BN (NGC). This piece is apparently overstruck on a cut down large Cent, although the undertype is difficult to discern in all areas save for on the obverse in the date area. Overstruck examples of this die marriage are very rare, and only one specimen was known to Dr. Ronald P. Manley at the time his book The Half Cent Die State Book: 1793-1857 went to press. Dark copper-brown patina to both sides, the surfaces generally smooth at the Fine grade level. Other bold detail comes up short in a few isolated areas at the borders.
