Lot Description

This frosty example retains hints of faded deep rose mint color in the protected areas around many of the devices, especially the peripheral lettering. Otherwise boldly toned in steely antique copper-brown, both sides are well struck with crisp detail to virtually all design elements. A few tiny pits on the obverse are natural to the planchet and require magnification to discern, the surfaces free of sizeable marks or other significant blemishes. This Ryder number is among the more frequently encountered in Mint State for the 1787 Massachusetts half cent, and the present example would do especially well in a high grade type set.
