Lot Description

BB Die State II, Salyards Die State II. Wonderfully original and impressively smooth in a well circulated example of this challenging early dollar issue. The obverse impression is fairly well centered, upper border devoid of denticulation, but all major design elements bold for the grade. The reverse was struck slightly off center to 4 o'clock, with the result that the periphery from 1 to 7 o'clock has acquired heavier wear than elsewhere, tops of the letters in AMERICA fading away. Even so, all major design elements on the latter side are appreciable, and most are boldly outlined. Both sides show no significant blemishes and are handsomely toned with a nice circulated cameo appearance between steely charcoal fields and mauve-gray motifs.
