Lot Description

Mottled steely olive-copper patina with areas of warmer medium brown at upper left obverse and more scattered on the reverse. This piece is well struck for the type, the denticulation complete around the borders and the design elements sharp apart from the typical lack of centrils to the stars around the obverse periphery. Light high point wear and a few wispy marks do little more than confirm a short stint in active circulation. This is a scarcer date in the Matron Head cent series, and it is represented here by a desirable Choice AU from the Newcomb-3 dies that will fit comfortably into many collections.
