Lot Description
Soft pearl-gray patina to both sides with splashes and swirls of multicolored iridescence scattered about. This coin is well struck (but not quite full) for a '21 Peace dollar, and it is also uncommonly smooth with no detracting abrasions to report. Definitely finer than the typically encountered survivor of this popular first-year issue in the Peace Dollar series of 1921-1935.
The 1921 is the only high relief Peace dollar issue that saw widespread distribution into commercial channels. "Gradeflation" in recent years has made certified Mint State examples readily obtainable in grades up to and including MS-65. In properly graded MS-65+ this issue remains scarce, however, and it is rare any finer. This is a superior quality coin that would do justice to an advanced Peace dollar set.
