Lot Description

Writing in the 2015 edition of the book Cherrypickers' Guide to Rare Die Varieties of United States Coins, Bill Fivaz and J. T. Stanton have this to say about the 1935 FS-801 DDR Nickel:

There is strong doubling on FIVE CENTS and E PLURIBUS UNUM, as well as at the eye, horn, and mane on the buffalo. This variety is rare in any grade above Very Fine. About 10 are known in Mint State.
Offered is a rare and highly desirable Select Mint State example whose softly frosted surfaces are dressed in lovely iridescent golden-apricot toning. It is boldly struck and nicely preserved with only a few wispy blemishes precluding an even higher grade. Destined for inclusion in an advanced collection of Buffalo nickels with varieties.
